Austin, TX- July 17, 2009- SACHEM introduces a new line of products that will assist in the manufacture of advanced ceramics. The Avanta AC™ line of products offers unique advantages over traditional inorganic compounds currently employed in the ceramics industry.
New technologies in energy storage devices require innovative high performance chemistries as breakthrough performance is demanded. In addition, the need for reproducible, reliable and efficient chemical and manufacturing processes is steadily increasing. Whether working with Multi Layer Ceramic Capacitors (MLCC), hybrid polymer/inorganic dielectrics, or Lithium Ion Batteries, SACHEM’s new, high purity chemistry solution, Avanta AC™ can help maximize energy storage performance with improved, consistent ceramic powder properties.
One component of a MLCC is a dielectric paste which contains advanced ceramic powders. Many of these powders are based upon barium titanate and barium strontium titanate but often include carefully controlled levels of other specific elements. Regardless of the elemental make up of the ceramic powder, consistent particle size, purity, shape and dispersion properties are paramount in development of new technologies for manufacturing MLCCs.SACHEM’s high purity organic hydroxides will assist ceramic powder manufacturers in reaching the aggressive industry goals required for thin layer dielectric materials. In addition, use of SACHEM’s hydroxides will also ensure production of ceramic powders with low halide and low metal contaminants which will also prolong the life and enhance performance of the capacitor.
Dr. Craig S. Allen, Chief Technology Officer at SACHEM says: “It is critical that the metal oxide nanopowders have a very narrow particle size distribution so that each layer of the capacitor can be made reproducibly thin and defect free. The presence of even a small number of large particles in a layer can affect the reliability of the whole capacitor.”
Solution-based chemical methods represent cost-effective and efficient chemical processes for manufacturing nanopowders. While there are many routes for the production of ceramic dielectrics, regardless of manufacturing technique, SACHEM’s Avanta Advanced Ceramics solutions can produce powders that meet cutting edge requirements.
