SACHEM Recognizes Dr. Steven Cramer

Worldwide leader in displacement chromatography receives award. Austin, TX – October 30, 2007 – SACHEM is proud to be working with Dr. Steven Cramer, a worldwide leader in chromatographic bioprocessing and an expert in separations.  Dr. Cramer has just been awarded the William Weightman Walker Professor of Polymer Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI).   The endowed professorship is the highest honor bestowed on a faculty member.

SACHEM has had a strategic agreement with Dr. Cramer since 2002 for the development and commercialization of displacement chromatography technology.  Cramer’s research focuses on using chromatography and developing new technology to separate and purify biological compounds.  Separations of impurities of pharmaceutical compounds can require multiple steps – each of which is expensive. “If we can make the process more efficient and more economical, we can make drugs more affordable,” Cramer said.

Dr. Cramer and his collaborator’s work have resulted in over four patents on displacement chromatography, and these patents are now being used commercially in the biotech industry.  SACHEM continues to work with Dr. Cramer and RPI for the development and commercialization of displacement chromatography.
