Reagens™ and GMAC for Personal Care

Reagens™ and GMAC™ products introduce a cationic charge (“cationization”) to biopolymers such as cellulose and guar in the manufacture of cationic polymers such as Polyquaternium-10 and Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride. These cationic polymers serve as antistatic and conditioning agents for hair and skin. EWG’s Skin Deep® identifies over 500 cosmetic products containing Polyquaternium-10 and over 1,000 products containing Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride:

Reagens™ SACHEM’s Reagens™ and Reagens™ MOD product lines provide polymer manufacturers with high purity reagents for adding different functional groups to bio polymers.

Modification of starch or cellulose ethers, particularly hydroxyethylcellulose (HEC), with Reagens™ MOD alkyl glycidyl ethers can disrupt hydrogen bonding and introduce a hydrophobic group providing enhanced properties. The modified starch can behave in some water-based formulations as an associative thickener. Such modified starches are finding wide use as rheology modifiers in personal care applications, like shampoos and conditioners.
