SACHEM Raises $14,000 For Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund

Austin, Texas  October 18, 2017  “The SACHEM family has stepped up in an impressively generous way to assist our fellow Texans impacted by Hurricane Harvey.  We are certainly proud to provide this support,” stated John Mooney, President and CEO of SACHEM, Inc..  As you know, Hurricane Harvey made landfall between Port Aransas and Port O’Connor, Texas with winds of 130 miles per hour, bringing massive destruction to communities in its path in August of this year. Texas Governor Greg Abbott expanded a disaster declaration to include 50 counties, and 30 of those counties have been declared federal disaster areas.

As survivors confront the historic scale of Hurricane Harvey’s devastation, Americares has now provided more than $4.8 million worth of medicines, supplies and financial assistance to 35 partners in disaster-affected communities across Texas.

SACHEM partnered with Americares to create a Hurricane Harvey Disaster Relief Fund where SACHEM matched employee donations. Our program ran through the end of September and we were able to raise $14,000 and for every $1 donated, Americares provided $20 in aid.

Americares is working with local health centers, free clinics and response partners in Texas to meet the requests for water, medications, medical supplies and emergency deliveries. Medical aid is being provided to those with chronic conditions like kidney failure, diabetes and asthma. Preventative care (vaccine) is also available as standing water and debris could provide ideal breeding grounds for insects including mosquitoes which in Texas can carry the West Nile virus.
