Position within organization:
At SACHEM the Process Engineer will participate in the design and troubleshooting of a process unit, including establishing process design basis, development of process options and optimization of selected design. The process engineer will have close contacts with the plant manager, production, R&D, HSEEE and maintenance department and external parties for the exchange of information. You will be in the process of improvement and innovation of products and processes in technical sense, communication, control and execution. The Process Engineer reports to the Global Engineer Manager.
Job description:
As Process Engineer you are responsible for the plant in Zaltbommel. You translate the potential for improvement of a process towards technical concepts and work things out. You take care of product technical improvements and the commissioning of machines.
Detailed description of tasks and responsibilities:
Additional duties may include, but are not limited to the following
- Implements, modifies, and maintains chemical processes
- Develops process flow diagram to define heat and material balance
- Calculates and organizes data for process flow sheets including instrumentation and control considerations
- Ensures proper sequence of operation, and writes control system functional specifications
- Prepares specifications and operating instructions for processing equipment
- Develops process specifications, e.g. distillation columns, pressure vessels, pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, and fired heaters
- Participates in planning, cost development and management, and scheduling for assigned projects
- Directs activities to ensure that construction, installation, and operational testing conform to functional specifications, recognized codes and standards, and customer requirements
- Lead and/or participate on special teams as required to address specific problems/needs of production department
- Assist in trouble-shooting technical process problems, initiate process reliability, safety, and economic improvements by revising process condition and procedures
- Maintains effective communication with project team members
- Performs routine aspects of engineering requiring knowledge and application of basic engineering principles
- Responsible for preparing a project budget, schedule and obtaining approval (by MT, Board)
- Preserve and maintain all engineering documents and process changes
- Calculations of plant changes and processes (e.g. heat exchangers, cooling tower, extraction unit)
- Informs forehanded and concrete about the progress to the Global Engineer Manager
- Provide, in consultations with the project manager, functional leadership and guidance for projects
- Responsible for the technical quality of projects
- Basic and detailed engineering of projects
- You are responsible for the safety of yourself and your colleagues, and you stick to the previously documented instructions
- Supporting activities for SHEE
- HAZOP studies
- Responsible for P&ID’s
Education and working experiece
- BS or MS in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering is required
- At least 5+ years of relevant work experience within the chemical process industry
- Previous experience in a process engineering and/or manufacturing organization is preferred
- Specific experience with troubleshooting and sizing typical processes and equipment including distillation columns, heat exchanges, pumps and compressors, process controls, control valve sizing, hydraulic evaluations, etc.
- Working knowledge of PLC and DCS control systems
- Advanced knowledge of local codes and standards, as well as generally accepted Good Engineering Practice, for design, sizing, and operation of Chemical production facilities
- Must be able to develop work scopes to support corporate goals and objectives effectively
- Affinity with legislation in terms of Safety, Health and Environment related to chemical operations
