SACHEM Hires James C. Knight to Focus on Core-Shell Technology

Austin, TX Tuesday March 15, 2016 SACHEM is continuously seeking talented individuals to add to our technology team. James Knight recently received a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. James completed his dissertation under the direction of Dr. Arumugam Manthiram, a leading technologist in the development of energy storage materials. Dr. Manthiram was recently elected a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (2014) and the Royal Society of Chemistry (2016) .

James brings academic experience in improving the capacity, cyclability, and rate capability of Li-rich layered oxides and contributed to ten research papers during his graduate studies. He also holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from The Ohio State University.

In his capacity at SACHEM, James will be focusing on our new core-shell cathode coating technology which is a facile low temperature process to prepare metal oxide shells on active ceramic particles for Li-ion battery cathode material manufacture.

SACHEM’s expertise in high purity, ionic chemistry has allowed us to create a unique method to coat cathode materials. With his experience in the cathode coating process, Dr. Knight will be focusing on improving this already innovative core-shell chemistry.
